West Chester Borough Sustainability Advisory Committee                                2015–2018
This advisory committee to West Chester Borough Council reviews land development plans for sustainability features and has developed a reward program for incentivizing green building in the Borough. The Committee has also supported the Borough’s mosquito management plan, which focuses on prevention and aims to minimize pesticide spraying while ensuring health ad safety.

West Chester Community Rights Alliance                                                          2015-present
Formed the West Chester Community Rights Alliance to expand the Borough’s home rule charter to include protections for a healthier and cleaner environment. The update to the charter – known as the Environmental Community Bill of Rights – passed as a ballot measure with 73% of the vote in the 2015 election, demonstrating strong bipartisan support.

West Chester Borough Tree Commission                                                           2014-2018
Authored ordinance designed to protect and restore the Borough’s aging tree canopy. The new law creates additional financial support for residents and building owners faced with condemned street trees and prioritizes tree replanting and tree preservation. Trees increase real estate values, draw customers to retail districts, reduce energy use and costs during the summer, clean the air, reduce stormwater runoff, and improve quality of life in the Borough.

West Chester Borough Leaders United for Emissions Reduction                      2006 – 2015
This municipally-endorsed ad-hoc committee performed the Delaware Valley’s first community-wide greenhouse gas emissions inventory, authored the nation’s first officially adopted ordinance requiring ENERGY STAR efficiency standards for new commercial construction, and created/implemented a successful Climate Action Plan which led to community-wide greenhouse gas reductions of 10% over 2005 base year levels.

Created strategic communications materials and contributed other efforts to West Chester VOTE. WC VOTE vetted and supported a fiscally responsible, diverse, bipartisan team committed to excellence in public education. This bipartisan group of citizens initiated the successful write-in campaign for the West Chester Area School District School Board in 2011, described as “massive” by the Daily Local News, resulting in more than 41,000 write-in votes, and culminating in our endorsed candidates taking the majority on the board within 2 years.

Moms for the Future                                                                                           2004 – 2007
This grassroots group of young mothers – an offshoot of Chester County Moms for Kerry – advocated for sustainable public schools in our communities. Moms for the Future brought five local public school districts, Krapf Buses, and The Energy Co-Op together in a successful effort to convert all five districts’ bus fleets to a locally-grown B20 biodiesel blend, thanks to a uniquely structured PA-DEP umbrella grant.
